When a team comes to work on the center your flights would need to be into Accra, Ghana.  Usually those flights arrive in the afternoon or evening so you will stay one night in Accra before driving up to Kumasi.  An inbound overnight in Accra at the Central district center will cost $5 per person.  The next day you will travel to Kumasi by bus, about a 5 hour trip.  They actually have some pretty nice bus companies so you should have a nice ride for transportation between Accra and Kumasi and it will cost about $15 person.

Once in Kumasi you will stay at a nice but simple guest house called the Arena Hotel.  The Arena Hotel is near the work-site and is charging us $15/night for king sized bedrooms with a/c and toilet/shower, $15/night for a double with a/c and toilet/shower, $12/night for a double with fan and toilet/shower, $10/night for single bed with fan and toilet/shower.  It will just be up to your team to decide what level they want to stay at and we will make the appropriate arrangements.

At the guest house we have the use of the kitchen if we buy our own cooking gas ....it has a counter, a sink, a fridge, a two burner cooker and a microwave.  The cost for transport between the hotel and the job site will be minimal and we will arrange for taxi service or vans to get the team there.  We usually use a $3 per person for Breakfast, $5 per person for lunch, and $7 per person for dinner.  This gives us a $15 per day for food which will also cover the occasional eating out.    You won't find many stores in the Kumasi area with lots of western style foods but the basics are there so if you plan simple meals you could easily do food for as little as $12 per day per person.

Any time the team is traveling for special events or for the side trips, it will cost the team a little more.  Transportation between Kumasi and Anomabo Beach
Resort along Cape Coast is about $200 for a point to point charter.  Anomabo charges $10/person per night for a hut with fan....community washhouses and toilets (unbelievably pristine!!!)...and the $10 includes breakfast. You can get a pretty good burger and chips for $4 each for lunch and suppers at Anomabo are around $6.50-$10

Transportation between Anomabo and Kakum Tree Top Walk, then on to the Crocodile infested restaurant, then on to Elmina Castle, then back in time for late afternoon swimming at Anomabo is about $150 flat rate for a group of 20.

-entrance to Kakum is about $8 each

-entrance to Elmina Castle is about the same at $8 each

-transportation between Anomabo and Accra is about $150 flat rate for 20 people on a point to point charter

These are some average numbers but can give you an idea of the cost and the fun things available for the team.  Not including the extra excursions we should have ground costs average out to about $40 per day per person.  We would encourage you to come for a minimum of 10 days and maximum of 17 days.   I don't know what days are best to fly on but if you arrive on a Thursday, get up to the project on Friday and get acclimated then you get one full day of work before relaxing on Sunday.

This helps your team to get two Sundays to be with the local people and to do some ministry activities as well as get in 8 to 10 good days of work before taking a day or two to relax on your way out of the country. This seems like a good schedule for teams and gets you the most exposure as well as an effective work week.

We are excited that the project already had two teams scheduled in July 2008 and March 2009 so we are almost there to making this dream into a reality.  We hope that at least one more team will join in and help complete the full district project.  For more information please send an email to Tim Eby at teby@awfcon.org.

We hope you get involved.

Our new land in Kumasi is a blessing from the Lord.   We have just begun the plans for development.  The first project was putting in a well.  In July 2008 the team from Virginia was able to raise the phase 1 structure to roof level. The team from Ohio then in March 2009 completed phase 2 by building the worship center to roof level.  This facility will be a huge encouragement to our district and we are excited about the start of a new day in the Midland District.

Construction will require approximately $10,000 USD for completion of the entire district center.  We hope to have one last team complete this important facility.  For more information please contact Tim Eby in the Africa West Field office at: teby@awfcon.org
