When a team comes to work on the center in the north your arriving flight will be into Accra, Ghana.  Usually those flights arrive in the afternoon or evening so you will stay one night in Accra before driving up to Garu.  An inbound overnight in Accra at the Central district center will cost $5 per person.  The next day you will travel to Garu by bus, about a 14 hour trip.  The ride will be a challenge for the team but once you are in Garu you will be glad that you made the trip.

Once in Garu you will stay at a local catholic guest house that is charging us $25/night for queen sized bedrooms with a/c and toilet/shower, $15/night for a double with fans and toilet/shower. It will just be up to your team to decide what level they want to stay at and we will make the appropriate arrangements.

A/C rooms are limited.

The guest house will prepare meals for reasonable prices so evening meals will be taken there.  The team will prepare your own breakfast and lunches will prepared at the site by local members.

The cost for transport between the hotel and the job site will be minimal and we will arrange for taxi service or vans to get the team there.  We usually use a $3 per person for Breakfast, $5 per person for lunch, and $7 per person for dinner.  This gives us $15 per day for food which will also cover the occasional eating out.

Any time the team is traveling for special events or for the side trips, it will cost the team a little more.  Upon the return of the team to Accra, arrangements can be made to take the team to the cape coast for some relaxation on the beach at Anomabo.

Transportation between Anomabo and Kakum Tree Top Walk, then on to the Crocodile infested restaurant, then on to Elmina Castle, then back in time for late afternoon swimming at Anomabo is about $150 flat rate for a group of 20.

-entrance to Kakum is about $8 each

-entrance to Elmina Castle is about the same at $8 each

-transportation between Anomabo and Accra is about $150 flat rate for 20 people on a point to point charter

These are some average numbers but can give you an idea of the cost and the fun things available for the team.  Not including the extra excursions we should have ground costs average out to about $50 per day per person.  We would encourage you to come for a minimum of 10 days and maximum of 17 days.   We suggest you arrive on a Thursday, get up to the project on Friday and get acclimated then you have one full day of orientation and some work at the site before worshipping with our local churches on Sunday.

This helps your team to get two Sundays to be with the local people and to do some ministry activities as well as get in 7 to 10 good days of work before taking a day or two to relax on your way out of the country. This seems like a good schedule for teams and gets you the most exposure as well as an effective work week.

We really need this project to move forward as the 60 churches across the district need a center for training and for celebrations.  We hope you chose to join us for the glory of God and the building of His kingdom. For more information please send an email to Tim Eby at teby@awfcon.org.

We hope you get involved.

Our center in Northern Ghana is just getting started.  A well has been put down on the propery.  The blocks are being made by local members and the foundational digging has started.

Construction will require approximately $20,000 USD for completion of the district center.  We hope to have several teams complete this important facility.  For more information please contact Tim Eby in the Africa West Field office at: teby@awfcon.org
